Jean Calhoun Falwell
Jean Calhoun Falwell, 91, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Wednesday evening, March 13, 2013 at Medical Care Center. Born April 21, 1921, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Clarence H. Calhoun and the late Lola Hawkins Calhoun.
Jean was the beloved wife of Lawrence W. Falwell for 71 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, James C. Falwell and his wife, Beth P. Falwell; her granddaughter, Katherine D. Falwell; grandson, Kyle W. Falwell; two great-grandchildren, Fields Harrington Falwell and Caroline Yonaitis Falwell; brother, C. Ray Calhoun and his wife, Bernice; and nephew, Bill Calhoun and his wife, Linda.
Jean was a member of Fairview Christian Church and the Loyal Sons and Daughters Sunday School Class. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their Buggs Island Lake home. Her first employment was with Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation and then as office manager at Falwell Fast Freight, Inc.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Thomas Road Baptist Church, Pate Chapel officiated by Pastor Jack Hamilton and Pastor Jonathan Falwell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a private interment at Fort Hill Memorial Park at a later time.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Fairview Christian Church, 2701 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
The family is most appreciative of the tender loving care given Jean by Mrs. Donna C. Goldenberg and Mrs. Edna Jessee.
