Jean Procter Hutchinson, 95, of Smith Mountain Lake, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Snyder Nursing Home in Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Russ” Hutchinson, who was the love of her life. They were married for 51 years.

Jean was born on November 19, 1928, in Clayton-le-Moors, England. She was the daughter of Mary Ellen and Lawrence Procter & traveled extensively as a child living in England, Brazil, and Canada before making her home in the United States, living in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and finally in Virginia. She was very proud of becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1951.

She was a member of Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Moneta, VA. During her time at Smith Mountain Lake, she enjoyed the Newcomers Club and its many activities. She loved reading and tending a small garden space overlooking the lake.

Her greatest joys were her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her later years, she loved making cookies, doing art projects, reading, & parading around the house with the little ones. Watching them in the lake and on boat rides brought many smiles.
