Jeanette Whitten Cyrus, 87, of Lynchburg, VA, died Saturday, July 29, 2017. She was the loving wife of Kyle Haskins Cyrus for 68 years. She was retired from the Campbell County School System after 40 years of service.
Born Tuesday, July 29, 1930 in Amherst County, Jeanette was a daughter of the late Marvin Buren Whitten and Della Ogden Whitten.
In addition to her husband, Jeanette is survived by her two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Mary Kay Cyrus of Tampa, Florida; and Stephen and Bainy Cyrus of Norfolk, Va. Also, a sister-in-law Betty Whitten of Tappahannock and three nieces and two nephews. In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. L. Carl Whitten and Austin S. Whitten.
Wow- married for 68 years to one man who she loved dearly. A wonderful mother who shared her faith and moral compass with tender words, stern nudging, and a whole lot of praying. She was quick to help a friend or family member and treasured her church and faith.
She was an active member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church in Lynchburg and previously a member of Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, and Northview United Methodist Church in Roanoke. She was active in the youth and Women’s groups in these churches. She also volunteered with the youth at Camp Alta Mons.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 02, 2017 at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church. A celebration of Jeanette’s life will follow conducted at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 02, 2017 at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Elizabeth Ecklund and Rev. Gary Heaton officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
