Jeffrey Lee Milton, 68, passed away in the evening of Thursday, February 20, 2025. Born in Farmville, Virginia on June 24, 1956, he was the son of the late Jake and Florence Milton of Aspen, Virginia.
Jeff is survived by his niece Stephanie Boteler and her husband Hampton Farmer of Nathalie; his nephew Jason Boteler of Gladys; his goddaughter Carrie Smith and her husband James Parrett Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee; an aunt, Ann Jeter of Richmond; an uncle, Lowell Milton of Lynchburg; brothers in law Lynn Boteler of Gladys, Jack Woodall of Spout Spring; as well as many cousins and second cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters in law Helen Boteler and Peggy Woodall;, and his beloved wife, Nancy Milton, to whom he was married for over 40 years.
Jeff spent his career working for the Virginia Department of Transportation, with a focus on bridges – their design, inspection, and maintenance. He was only 18 when he got his first position as a draftsman in the Road Design division. As he advanced through his career, Jeff held positions in the Lynchburg District Bridge Safety Division and later in the State Bridge Division out of Richmond. Well-respected among his peers, he also served on state and national bridge committees. He retired in 2022.
Jeff and his wife Nancy were avid NASCAR fans and enjoyed attending races (including multiple trips to the Daytona 500). They both loved being at the beach – Outer Banks, Florida, Bahamas - where Jeff was sometimes known to ‘disappear’ on one of his many-mile walks. Although Nancy was known as the musical one in their marriage, if the right Motown song was playing, you could definitely find Jeff singing and maybe dancing along. Jeff was incredibly generous, easy-going, and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was a person that you were happy to know, whether professionally or personally.
His family will host a memorial service on September 13, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at 2054 Aspen Rd. Phenix, VA 23959, home of Pam Milton Layne. All are welcome to attend.
