Jeff Bates, 66, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, January 18, 2019.
He was a self-employed master carpenter, the very best in his field. Jeff loved his family and took pride in teaching and imparting his wisdom to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman with a deep passion for hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Calvin Bates the first.
Survived by his wife, Bonnie McHaney; sons and daughters in law: Jason R. Bates and Laura Vaught, Josh R. and Christy-Lynn Bates; Derek and Brittany McCann; Jacob R. Bates and Kelly Head; and Colton McHaney; four grandchildren: Makenzy, Journey, Kylie and Hanson; his mother, Marie Bates; mother-in-law, Mary Ida McHaney; sisters: Lora Eddington and Lisa Geier.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, Va. A service will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to: Alan B. Pearson Cancer Center or the Hunters for the Hungry.
