Jerald J. Childers peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday December 19, 2017  at his residence in Lynchburg VA. He was born on December 21, 1923 to the late Leonard H. Childers and Ethel M. Childers.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife, Carrol Childers, an infant son, daughter Martha Young, and four siblings.

Jerald served honorably as a Military Policeman in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II holding the rank as Corporal. Jerald retired after 38 years from C&P Telephone Company. Jerald enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball, also being a member of the American Legion Post 16, Marine Corps Association, and Telephone Pioneers. He was a faithful VA Tech Hokie Fan and loved watching the football games.

Jerald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his children, Edward Childers and his wife Courtney, Carolyn Childers, and John Childers and Tracy, six grandchildren Ian, Sean, Lauren, Brandon, Autumn, Brennan, Morgan,  4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The Family would like to express sincere thanks to a special caregiver Ashleigh Zirkle, The organizations Heavenly Sent and Centra Hospice.

A visitation will be Friday December 22, 2017 from 11 until 12 P.M. at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA, with the graveside service to follow at 1 P.M. at Fort Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please offer contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project1120 G St. NW Suite 700 Washington, DC 20005.
