Jerry Maurice Hampton

June 15, 1941 — February 21, 2022

Jerry Maurice Hampton, 80, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 21, 2022. He was the loving husband of 46 years to Rosetta Phlegar Hampton. Jerry was born on June 15, 1941, in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of the late Juel Maurice Hampton and Doris Virginia Speight Hampton.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife Rosie and five children: Leah Ladd (Travis Rowe), Todd Hampton (Angie), Rachel Wong (Clarence), Evan Hampton (Christina), and Hannah Hampton. He is also survived by ten grandchildren Gavin and Caiden Ladd; Carson, Jadd, and Avery Hampton; Haven, Abel, and Arden Wong; and Brantley and Beckett Hampton. He is also survived by his brother Ron Hampton (Dale) and their children, Amy and Paul.

Jerry graduated from Isaac Litton High School in Nashville, class of 1959. He graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1964 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed with BWXT for 35 years prior to his retirement in 2011.

Jerry had many hobbies and interests including: running with a group from BWXT, volunteering with the Old City Cemetery, loving all things trains (was a member of BRC/NRHS) and all things Porsche (was a member of BRR/PCA), and taking care of birds (but not squirrels).

He was a long-time member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. He truly loved and served others, and anyone who met him recognized how big his heart was. This servant heart came from his love of Jesus. He will be missed by everyone, but we have the assurance of reuniting with him one day as the Bible promises.

His Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Pate Chapel/TRBC. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm with the service to follow. Friends that are unable to attend in person are invited to join via livestream (Jerry Hampton Memorial Service – Thomas Road On Demand (trbc.org).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Old City Cemetery (Old City Cemetery (gravegarden.org) or Wycliffe Associates (Home – Wycliffe Associates | Accelerating Bible Translation).

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
