Jerry Raymond Nash, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27th in Lynchburg, Virginia. Jerry was born November 1, 1936 to Raymond Daniel “RD” and Maude Carwile Nash in Concord, Virginia.
The family moved to Lynchburg in 1954 however, Jerry continued his education graduating from Appomattox County High School in 1955. Jerry spent the majority of his adult life as a residential contractor building homes in the Lynchburg area. His many years as a builder and carpenter culminated in teaching the carpentry trade to young people at Old Dominion Job Corps through the National Association of Home Builders. Retiring in 1998, Jerry continued to work part-time in the area for many years after retirement.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Geraldine; son Dean and wife Karen of Johnson City, Tennessee; daughter, Gwen Nash Murphy and husband Jim of Forest, Virginia; four grandchildren, Jessica and Raymond Nash, Steven and Laura Murphy, four great grandchildren; a special first cousin, Mildred Ore; as well as five nephews, many other relatives, friends and his faithful companion dog Fred. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his only sister Martha Nash Starnes and his great granddaughter, Sydney Carwile.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 6th, 2021 at 9 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Dr, Lynchburg, VA 24502 with a memorial service to follow in the chapel at 10 a.m. with Dr. Robert Putt officiating.
