Jerry Winston Hipps

Jerry Winston Hipps , 72, of Rustburg, VA, died Thursday, November 03, 2011. He was the husband of Faye Myers Fitzgerald Hipps for 33 years.

Born Wednesday, February 15, 1939 in Martinsville, VA, Jerry was a son of the late Ezera Winston Hipps and Annie Rorer Hipps.

In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by two daughters; Lisa MacDonald and her husband, Chris, of Pawleys Island, SC, and Suzanne Hahn and her husband, Jason, of Cook City, MT, a sister; Judy Hylton and her husband, Bobby, of Danville, VA, a step-brother; Donnie Ragland and his wife, Louise, of Newport News, VA, two grandchildren; Stella and Silas Hahn, of Cook City, MT, and a loving aunt; Caroleen Williams, Montross, VA, a brother in-law; Michael Myers, of Rustburg, and 2 sisters in-law; Sue Cary and her husband, H., and Gina Caulder, of Lynchburg.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a son, Troy Scott Fitzgerald.

Jerry came to Lynchburg in 1958, and started an upholstery business with Charlie Fears. From there he began a lifelong business with selling cars, later owning and operating Auto World. Jerry was a member of the Old Timers Racers Club and a charter member, and member for 25 years of the Virginia – Carolina Early Dirt Racers. Jerry loved and adored his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed having breakfast with his buddies at the Stadium Inn. He never met a stranger.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 7, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with Pastor Dwight Weaver and the Rev. Lenn Lloyd officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
