Jewell Wheeler Proehl, 93, of Rustburg, VA, died Sunday, January 11, 2015. She was the wife of the late Frank Rada Proehl.
Born Sunday, March 13, 1921 in Lynchburg; she was a daughter of the late Alfred Wheeler and the late Beulah Callaham Wheeler. Jewell was retired from Sears & Roebuck where she had worked as a credit clerk for many years. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and a former member of Parkview United Methodist Church.
Jewell is survived by her children, Rada Proehl Spencer and husband Bob of Statesville, N.C., and Valerie Proehl Tomlin and husband Stan of Buena Vista; her grandchildren, Brandi T. Falls of Chesterfield, Tiffany T. Duren and husband Matt of Elkridge, MD, Stacie T. Wheeler and husband Daniel of Buena Vista, and Stanley Tomlin, Jr. and wife Megan, of Lexington; her great-grandchildren, Robyn L. Miller and her husband Josh of Lynchburg, Trey Lee of Amherst, Kayce Falls of Chesterfield, Isabelle and Quinn Duren of Elkridge, MD, Kaela and Carlie Wheeler of Buena Vista; and one great-great-grandson, Mason Miller of Lynchburg.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Keesee.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 14, 2015, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made to Rustburg Rescue Squad, 238 Village Hwy, Rustburg VA 24588.
