Jimmie Rogers Campbell, Sr. of Altavista passed away on December 2, 2021 at the home of his son, Jimmie, Jr. also of Altavista. He was 83 years old. Born on June 25, 1938, in Amherst County VA, his parents were Betty Pearl Cash Campbell and Bernard T. Campbell of Clifford VA. He was the husband of Shirley C. Campbell (deceased). He is survived by his children, Bonnie Gaither (Lonnie) of Corpus Christi, TX, Donna Crews of Beeville TX, and Jimmie R. Campbell, Jr. (Georgia) of Altavista VA, his grandchildren, Lewis “Bucky” Jackson, III (Shannon) of Lynchburg, VA, Brian Jackson of Rustburg, VA, Tiffany Honaker Lester of Brookneal, Jessica Neas (Jarrod) of Altavista, Jennifer Campbell of Altavista, Julie Campbell of Altavista and Jimmie Campbell III of Altavista and a host of great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Pauline Newsome and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by grandson Roger L. Mathews Jr. as well as all his siblings except his sister Pauline.

Jimmie grew up on the family farm in Turkey Mountain VA, as one of 13 siblings. He later went to school and became a master carpenter and builder, and he worked as a carpenter his whole life. He took great pride in his work, and his craftsmanship still stands in the many homes in the area that he helped to build. His passion was all things outdoors and he spent as much time as he could there. He loved hunting, fishing, and raising gardens. He also loved football, NASCAR, playing his guitar and telling stories of hunting and fishing! He was larger than life and will always be remembered as such. He will be greatly missed by all his family and loved ones.

There will be a visitation at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive,  Lynchburg VA on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, from 6 – 8PM.  His family will be present to welcome loved ones.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association.
