Jimmie Lee Humphrey

March 22, 1945 — July 2, 2025

Jimmie Lee Humphrey, 80, left this earthly life on July 2, 2025. Born and raised in Fredericksburg, VA, he resided in Goodview, Virginia. He was the son of the late Walter M. Humphrey, Sr. and Nellie Irene Groves of Fredericksburg. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter and Harold, and sister Mary Handy. Mr. Humphrey retired from BWX Technologies in Lynchburg, VA, after 30 years of service.

Growing up in Fredericksburg near the Rappahannock River, Mr. Humphrey developed a love of the water and water sports. He enjoyed boating and camping on Smith Mountain Lake. He enjoyed yard work. He loved watching NASCAR racing and old war and western movies. He enjoyed working with his hands and assembled many miscellaneous toys for his children and grandchildren through the years. He loved feeding and watching 4 legged fur babies of all types especially our local wildlife and he loved yellow Hibiscus.

His family was his world. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances Roberts Humphrey. He fathered 4 of the most exquisitely perfect children: Tina Kolodziej and husband Steve and their family of Spotsylvania; VA; Lisa Humphrey-Tice and husband Jimmy Tice, of Montvale; VA; Kevin Humphrey of Goodview, VA; Steven Humphrey and partner Angela Davis of Montvale, VA. He was joyfully loved by an army of grandchildren: Laken and Jamie Jamerson, Ashden and Shaelee Humphrey, Jonathan and Mary Tice, Steven II and Brooke Humphrey, Cheyenne Humphrey, Marisah and Austin Pierce, Logan and Emily Davis, Isaac Davis, and Michelle Wald, along with a growing plethora of great grandchildren. He also leaves many loved nieces and nephews. He is greatly missed by his guard cat, Leroy, who rarely left his side and his “little girls” Noire and Bratt.

Much thanks and appreciation to the Carilion Hospice staff, the Carilion In Home Nurses and Carilion In Home Physical Therapy. Their help and caring were immeasurable.

Hug your loved ones often and tight. 57 years was not long enough.

“Oh, the difference to me.”

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, is assisting the family.
