Joan Hauser Ilse Link

Joan Hauser Ilse Link, formally of Lincolnton, North Carolina, died peacefully on Saturday April 3, 2021. She was born Friday March 6, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Lloyd and Helen Hauser. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband William Ilse of 39 years (1995), husband Howard Link of 13 years (2014), and brother, Dr. Robert Hauser.
Joan was devoted to the care of her family and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Gardening and tending to her roses and blueberry bushes were favorite hobbies. Joan’s faith was deep, and church was central to her life, as was exemplified by attending daily Mass and being an Oblate of St. Benedict.
She also was deeply committed to serving others and found joy and purpose in giving back to her community. As one of the founding members of St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church in Lincolnton, she served on numerous committees, including the building committee and as Parish Council President. Joan was past president of the Lincolnton Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Lincoln County Apple Festival. She was actively involved in the Crisis Pregnancy Center, Christian Ministries, and was instrumental in starting Hospice of Lincoln County. Joan had a generous spirit, cared for the sick and hurting, and was loved by many.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Gail Van Dyke (Luke), Ken Ilse, Karen Hampel (Ken), Paul Ilse (Angela); sister Vinnie Iungerman (Joe), stepsister Sue Pahmeier, stepbrother Tom Viets (Liz); grandchildren Jim Van Dyke (Samantha), Stephanie Bowen (Dan), Elizabeth and Nicholas Van Dyke; Sarah, Emily, Evan, and Clare Hampel; Ann Marie, Morgan, Will, and Jack Ilse; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday April 9, 2021 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Lynchburg, VA. The inurnment will follow at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Hickory, NC on Saturday April 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church, 148 St. Dorothy’s Lane, Lincolnton, NC 28092 or to Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
