Joan Osborne Giorgi

Joan Osborne Giorgi, 83, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, January 16, 2011.  She was the wife of the late Robert Achille Giorgi.

Mrs. Giorgi was born Sunday, August 28, 1927, in Jersey City, NJ, a daughter of the late Fred Osborne and Margaret Mackey Osborne.  She was a retired dental hygienist and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Joan was a homemaker and wonderful mother and grandmother first.  She always found time for community service also.  She was a longtime member of the Ladies of Charity (St. Francis circle), the Needlework Guild and was a driver for Meals on Wheels.  She was a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Cross.  She was a caretaker in every possible way, always making time for others.  From reading at elementary schools to teaching Sunday School to being a devoted caretaker of ailing family members, she was a ray of sunshine to all she met.

She is survived by her son, Christopher Giorgi and wife, Mary, of Richmond; her daughters, Robin Hinkle and husband, Phillip, of Forest; and Laura Cooper and husband, James, of Alexandria; her grandsons, Adam Giorgi of Richmond, Joshua Hinkle of Lynchburg and Dustin Hinkle of Forest; and a sister, Marjorie Argento and husband, Barry, of Orrtanna, PA.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Horsfall.

A celebration of Joan's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush officiating.  Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service.
