Joan Whitehead Mysakowec
Joan Whitehead Mysakowec, 76, of Lynchburg, died on Sunday, May 12, 2013. She was the wife to the late Myron Raymond \"Ray\" Mysakowec. Joan was born on December 22, 1936 in Boissevain, VA the daughter of the late Jennings Bryan Whitehead and the late Mary Grosclose Whitehead.
Joan is survived by one son, Jim Mysakowec and wife, Trish of Parkersburg, WV; one daughter, Judi Lariviere and husband, Dennis of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Jaymes \"Cody\" Mysakowec, Kelly Lariviere Andrews and John Lariviere; one great-grandson, Brenden Raymond Andrews; her best friend Dorothy Moseley of Lynchburg as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joan was a member of the Class of 1954 of Gary High School, Gary WV. She attended Lynchburg General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1957 with her RN. Joan was employed by the Lynchburg City Public Schools where she retired as a school nurse.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with the Rev. David Warden officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and again at a reception at the funeral home following the burial at Spring Hill Cemetery.
Joan\"™s family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Headley and the staff at Lynchburg Hematology and Oncology, Dr. Anita Hilliard and staff at Radiation Oncology Associates and the nursing and support staff on the Oncology floor at Lynchburg General Hospital.
The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 2050 Langhorne Road, Suite 201, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
