Joann B. Peake, 81, of Roanoke, passed away on October 15, 2015 in Lynchburg.
Joann was born April 29, 1934 in Charlotte, N.C. to the late Joseph S. Beatty and Kathleen M. Beatty. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter H. Peake, Jr. (Herb).
A devoted and beloved sister, wife, mother and grandmother, Joann attended the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina (now UNCG). She worked for approximately 30 years in the Roanoke City School System as an assistant librarian at several schools including William Fleming and Patrick Henry High Schools.
Until her illness, she was an active member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church since 1967, where she and Herb had many devoted friends. Joann was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Ram House and Habitat for Humanity. She loved bridge and was a skilled player.
Joann is survived by her two sons, Walt Peake and his wife, Nancy, of Roanoke, and Mark Peake and his wife, Lila, of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren, Meredith, Kathleen, John J. Peake, all formerly of Roanoke, Mark, Jr., John R., Anderson, Lillian and Lauren Peake, all of Lynchburg; her sister, Katherine Peters and her husband, Eb, of Raleigh, N.C.; brother, Joe Beatty and his wife, Jane, of Greensboro, N.C.; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and by many life-long friends from both, her native Charlotte, and Roanoke.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge Seven Hills Hospice in Lynchburg for their assistance and heart-felt care during the last year.

A Memorial Service will be held at Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, Roanoke on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 1 p.m. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the Fellowship Hall.
