Joann Margaret Saari

Joann M. Saari, 86, of Lynchburg passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents Albino and Susan Gessini, her husband of 29 years Ray J. Saari and her four brothers.
She is survived by her four children Karen and Tanis Smith, Julie and Mark Bedner, Sue and Craig Soss, Michael and Harriet Saari, eight grandchildren – Kristin Smith, Meghan and Gene Mays, Tanis Michael and Nikky Smith, Katie and Allie Soss, Christopher, Alec and Leah Saari and six great-grandchildren
Joann loved to volunteer at Virginia Baptist Hospital and at James River Day School in the library. She was an avid walker. She made many friends along her Boonsboro route who became her Boonsboro Road family. Joann was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. We thank the wonderful folks from Gentle Shepherd Hospice who were loving and supportive to her and her family during her illness.
The family will receive friends from 10:00a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father James Gallagher officiating.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060, or to the American Lung Association, 9702 Gayton Road #110, Richmond, VA 23238, in her memory.
