Mrs. Joann T Brooks went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 23, 2019.
Funeral service and visitation will be held at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, 402 Hershberger Rd., Roanoke, VA 24012. Family visitation will be from 5:00-6:00 and the service will be at 6:00 with Pastor, Dr. Wayne Sellers officiating.
She was born in Lynchburg, VA to Frances and Marshall Thornton on October 6, 1932. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA and went on to graduate from the UVA School of Nursing in 1953. She worked at the VA Hospital in Salem, VA before marrying Mr. John C. Brooks and raising her four children in Roanoke, VA. Amongst many things, she was a gifted writer, poet, scholar, and active in the church. Above all, she was an incredible Mother who devoted her life to loving and caring for her family.
Flowers are accepted for services and the church will be open at 3pm on Thursday, August 29, 2019 for flower delivery Or, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Joann’s memory in care of Julie Rhodes towards funeral expenses.
She is survived by her brother, Marshall Lee Thornton of Lynchburg, VA and her four children, Terry Arnold, Joel Brooks, Jonathan Brooks and Julie Rhodes and their family members. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory Roanoke, is assisting the family.
