JoAnne Lenore Martin Blencowe, 77, of Lynchburg passed away June 16, 2019.

She was born on December 25, 1942 in Danville. She was the daughter of Sam and Gladys Martin of Danville. JoAnne was married to James Alfred Blencowe for almost 60 years until his death in 2017. She is survived by three children Elizabeth James Blencowe Giorello of Neptune Beach, Florida, and Jennifer Lynne Blencowe and James Scott Blencowe both of Lynchburg, as well as three grandchildren: Nicholas James Blencowe, Alexandra Jones Blencowe, and Hannah James Blencowe; great-grandson Houston Parker Franklin all of Lynchburg; sister-in-law Mary Janet Murray and her husband Paul of Little Rock, AR; her daughter Cara Owen and her husband Heath of Nashville, TN and their two children, Stella and Hudson.

JoAnne was active in many Lynchburg organizations, including the garden club. She had a flair for fashion and design. Her women’s boutique, The Hen House, was a popular shop on Langhorne Road. She worked for the YWCA for several years helping with vintage clothing. JoAnne particularly enjoyed conducting etiquette classes for young children. Before the onset of her lengthy ordeal with Alzheimer’s disease, JoAnne was an avid tennis player and participated in many tournaments at Boonsboro Country Club. She enjoyed and appreciated being a part of the community of friends who live on Timberlake Drive.

A visitation honoring JoAnne’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on June 27, 2019 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
