Joe Louis Jackson, Sr. “Pops” gained his angel wings on Friday, March 3, 2017. He was at home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Mr. Jackson was born in Appomattox to the late John Walter and Reva (Watts) Jackson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Jackson, and a special nephew, who was like a son, Robert Jackson (Maretta).
He leaves behind his devoted wife of forty one years, Phyllis; his children, Diane Allen (Rodney), Valencia Walthall (Lewis), Lavoris Ware (Dennis), Everett Jackson (Lynetta), Stacy Jackson, Janet Lambert, Angela Green (Darial), and Joe Jackson, Jr. (Sonia), a special nephew who was like a son, Fred Tanner (Gloria), his sisters Thelma Tanner, Maxine Ross, Yvonne Gilbert (Isaah), Louise Anderson (Preston); a brother, James Jackson; his sisters–in-law, Wanda Doss, Charlene Reynolds (Phil) and Shelby Boyte (Dwayne); seventeen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Alease Ferguson (Scootchie) and numerous friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home’s Lynchburg Chapel 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 , with repast following the services.
The family wishes to thank Hospice for the care Joe received from them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Daily Bread.
