John Alex Wilson

John Alex Wilson, 68, of Bedford, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at VA Medical Center. Born on Friday, March 6, 1942, a son of the late Spottswood Fairfax Wilson and Alma Lee McFarland Wilson. In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by two brothers, Hank Wilson and Wayne Wilson; two sisters, Geraldine Wilson and Emma Jean Bowyer.



John was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church.  He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.



John is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Evelyn Sue Ripley Wilson; one son, John Fitzgerald Wilson and his wife, Lorrie Leigh of Bedford; one daughter, Denise Zimmerman and her husband, Steve of Bedford; four grandchildren, Chris Crawford, Shelly Zimmerman, Kayla Brooke and Hunter Jarett Wilson; six brothers, Lawson Wilson, Lewis Wilson, James Wilson, Sherman Wilson, David Wilson; four sisters, Pauline Mitchen, Sarah Johnston, Shirley Sreves and Lessie Frank; numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of John\"™s life will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with the Pastor Rick Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, March 15, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford.
