John Andrew Fister

July 31, 1973 — September 21, 2023

John Andrew Fister, age 50, passed away September 21, 2023.  Andrew was born and raised in Akron, Ohio and was a graduate of Highland High School and The University of Cincinnati.  Andrew was a passionate educator, fearless believer, and devoted family man. He graciously shared his time, talents and treasures for the benefit of anyone in need.  He had an enthusiastic approach to life who always chose to see the good in people.  He meant so much to so many people and his legacy will live on within all of us.

Andrew was an educator for close to 25 years, most recently at Amherst High School where he taught German and Math.  His bright smile and joyous laugh filled the hallways and classrooms with positivity.  He mentored hundreds of students by teaching them how to believe in themselves and sharing his love for lifelong learning.  He had a special gift for working with students who often needed a second chance.  His mentorship of students extended into his love of sports as he spent many years coaching basketball at Green High School in Ohio.

Andrew’s most cherished role was as a father and husband.  His walk with Jesus was paramount in his life and he faithfully led his family to ensure they got the most out of life.  He instilled a family motto of “Let’s go, let’s do, let’s experience” and wanted his family to enjoy all that life had to offer.

Andrew is survived by his wife Mandy, daughter Grace-Eden, son Levi, father Peter, brothers Matthew (Carrie) and Jonathon (Andi), as well as nieces, nephew, cousins and in-laws.  He is preceded in death by his mother Carolyn; grandparents, Peter and Betty Fister and Carl and Emily Hass; and uncles Bob Fister, Roy Fister, and Charles Hass.

Friends will be received on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at The Chapel of Heritage Baptist Church and the funeral service will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Worship Center of Heritage Baptist Church (219 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg, VA 24502).  A live stream of the service can be found at www.hbclynchburg.com/bereavement.
