John Austin Maddox

John Austin Maddox, 85, passed away Saturday October 8, 2011 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born June 15, 1926, he was the son of the late John Henley Maddox and the late Lula Ponton Maddox and was the husband of the late Lydia Williams Maddox.

John was a retired truck driver and a veteran of WWII. During his time in the service, he served as a Military Police Motorcycle Escort for General Patton. John was a kind and quiet man whose presence commanded respect and admiration and was affectionately known as Brother, Big John, Uncle John, and Daddy. He will be greatly missed.

 In addition to his wife and parents, John was also predeceased by his brother, Lawrence Maddox, an infant sister, Naomi, and his son, Monte Williams. Survivors include his son, David A. Williams and wife, Suzanne; grandsons, Christopher D. Williams and wife Elizabeth, and Anthony P. Williams, all of Chesapeake, VA.; grandson, Monte Williams, Jr.; nephew, Michael L. Maddox of Amherst, VA.; niece, Susan M. Barbour of Madison Heights, VA., two great nieces and one great-great niece.

 A memorial service honoring John\"™s memory will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday October 15, 2011 at Clearview Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Greene officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
