John Carrington “Pete” Walker, 88, of Forest died Saturday, April 29, 2017. He was the husband of the late Evelyn P. “Winkie” Walker for 62 years.

Pete was born in Lynchburg on September 24, 1928 a son of the late Willie Ambrous Walker and Bessie Williams Walker. In Pete’s youth, he was especially proud of having played minor league baseball for the Cardinals in the short stop position. Pete then founded Perdue & Walker Electrical Company in 1964 and was a charter member of Forest Road United Methodist Church.

 He is survived by one brother Charles F. “Chuck” Walker of Lynchburg, a daughter Crystal W. “Cris” Sax and her husband George P. of Forest, a son John C. “Johnny” Walker and his wife Donna Rae of Bedford, two grandchildren: Darryl Walker and his wife Brenda Maria, and Tracy Walker Kernen and her husband Jeff, three great-grandchildren: Darryl, Brandon, and Cody, one great-great-grandson, Brandon Gene, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Willie A. “Junior” Walker, Louise W. “Sister” Cain, Evelyn W. “Beck” Landrum, Preston L. “Punk” Walker, and Marie Walker Perdue.

The family will receive friends tonight, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.

A Celebration of Pete’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Forest Road United Methodist Church with the Rev. C. Douglas Pillow officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
