John W. Craddock

John Wimbish Craddock died April 14, 2024 with family by his side.  He was born March 14, 1933 in Lynchburg to the late Nan and George Gilmer Craddock. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Emily Gunn Craddock. He is survived by his children, Anne Carter, John (Laura), Clay (Tess), grandchildren Cameron (Sam) Howe, Carter (Grant) Hopkins, Will Craddock, Nan Craddock, three great-grandchildren and many devoted nieces and nephews.

The youngest of five, John was preceded in death by his brothers Gilmer Jr., Paul Tulane, Claiborne, and his sister, Anne C. Hammerstrom.

 After graduating from E.C. Glass High School and Hampden-Sydney College, John returned to Lynchburg to work for Mason and Lee as a Financial Adviser. Upon the onset of Covid, he retired from Baird at the age of 87 years old. He loved both his colleagues and his clients, most of whom he worked with for decades. He served on the NASDAQ board and was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a lifelong member. 

 John was an avid sports fan from his early childhood days of listening to the Cincinnati Reds on the radio to following all UVA sports. He loved crosswords, geography, working on puzzles with his family at North Litchfield Beach, picnics on the Parkway, traveling with friends, and spending time with family. 

 The family wishes to thank Loretta and Karen for their loving care as well as Kristen and the Centra Hospice team.

 There will be a family graveside service, Monday, April 22nd at Spring Hill Cemetery. 

 In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Presbyterian Church, Greater Lynchburg Community Trust, or a charity of one’s choice.
