John Daniel Hawks, III, 86, of Lynchburg died Monday May 25, 2015. He was the devoted husband of Huguette B. Hawks for 56 years.

John was born February 24, 1929 in Richmond, the son of the late John Daniel Hawks, Jr. and Buena Colaw Hawks. John was a graduate of Benedictine College Preparatory in Richmond and Virginia Tech. John honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from General Electric where he worked as an Electrical Engineer. John belonged to the Lynchburg Stamp Club and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #595, and was also a parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. John was a gifted handyman, he could fix anything. One of his favorite things to do was to travel extensively with his wife.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children: Janice Sitler and husband Robert of Lynchburg, Glenn Hawks and wife Amy of Forest, Keith Hawks of Lynchburg, and Vicky Bohanon and husband Thomas of Glen Allen, and ten grandchildren: Amber, Johnathan, Colin, Olivia, Courtney, Colton, Kensey, Gavin, Ian, and Jason.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday May 29, 2015 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

A Funeral Mass for John will follow at 6: 00 p.m. Friday May 29, 2015 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald Bourgault as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Centra Hospice for their loving care and support.
