John Earl Evers, 91 of Lynchburg, died on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at his home. He was the husband of Sarah Singleton Evers for 64 years.
Born Monday, November 7, 1921 in Orange, Virginia, he was a son of the late John H. Evers and the late Lomie Lee Evers. He was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Williams, and brothers, William, Paul, Carl, Arthur, Frank, Lawrence and Nelson Evers.
He served his country in the Air Corps and as a Master Sergeant in the Army during World War II. John retired from Sears & Roebuck after 35 years of service. He was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and elder and was a charter member of the Romeo\"™s.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children and their spouses: Joan Woodroof & Steve, Betty Nelson & Jeff, Carol Epperson & Larry, John Evers, Jr. & Cynthia and David Evers & Anne-Margaret, grandchildren: Katherine Evers, Ashley Evers, Carter Evers, Jeffrey Nelson, Jessica Nelson, Jacque Nelson, Jennie Nelson, Amanda Epperson, Andrew Epperson, Aaron Epperson, Michael Epperson, Sara Woodroof Evans, Laura Woodroof Lane, John Stuart Woodroof, David Evers Jr., Jackson Evers and Addison Evers; great-grandchildren;Morgan Evans, Olivia Evans, Mason Lane, Julianne Wooodroof
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Bart W. Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
