John Edward Coffey

John Edward Coffey, Johnny, 75, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.

Born in Amherst County, Va. he was the eldest son of the late Elmer Page Coffey and Corrine Sale Coffey. Also proceeded in death by father-in-law, Fred Vandergriff; mother-in-law, Jo Vandergriff; sister, Doris Ferguson and brother-in-law, Wayne Ferguson.

He graduated from Amherst County High School in 1964 and was a long-term employee of Amherst Motors, as well as a real estate agent for many years. Johnny grew up attending Midway Baptist Church as a kid. He was a long-time member of Timberlake United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and Building Committee. Johnny loved his Country and served as a Reservist in the United States Army. He loved Nascar racing, WWE, and fishing at the Outer Banks.

He is survived by his wife, Janey V. Coffey; children, Ashley Coffey of Lynchburg, Sarah Coffey of Lynchburg, and Lisa Dawn. Also survived by one sister, Janet Williams; one brother, Steve Coffey (Susan); four grandchildren, Kasey Warthan (Tim), Donovan Murphy, Riley Jo Murphy, Nicholas “Cole” Coffey; two great-grandchildren, Kelsie and Hannah; sister-in-law Ann Lautermilch (Paul); also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service in celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021, at Midway Baptist Church in Amherst, Va. with Pastor Jack Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service on Friday.
