John Edward Hubbard, Jr., 28, of Lynchburg, died Friday, August 30, 2019. He was the son of Shane Fuqua Hubbard and the late John Edward Hubbard, Sr.
He was born on May 4, 1991 in Lynchburg, Va. He was a member of Troop 48 of the Boy Scouts of America obtaining the rank of Life Scout. He had a huge heart full of love and compassion, especially for his family and friends. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He was always willing to help anyone with anything without expecting anything in return. He stood up for the underdogs and wanted to make sure that everyone felt loved and included. He loved WWE Wrestling, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and all sorts of other games.
Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents June Rae and Douglas B. Fuqua; and his paternal grandfather Kenneth Russell Powell.
Along with his mother, he is survived by his paternal grandmother Gloria H. Powell; his aunt, Karen P. Gibson; his uncles, Steven G. Fuqua, Mike Hubbard, and D.R. Gibson, Jr.; his cousins: Travis H. and Tyler R. Fuqua, Cameron and Landon Gibson, and Virginia Bess and her son, Gavin; his devoted great uncle, William H. “Buddy” Johnson; special friends Jean Powell, Darrell L. DeJarnette, Esther “Aunt Lulu” Hall, and Clarence “C” and Lisa Poe and their children, Isaiah and Erica; and many other cousins, relatives, friends, and neighbors who were dear to John.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg at 4 p.m. with Reverend Clarence Poe officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. A reception will be held at Moose Lodge 715, 2307 Lakeside Dr. Lynchburg, VA 24502 immediately following the service.
