John Edwin Booth

John Edwin “Jack” Booth of Sturbridge, MA died unexpectedly Tuesday September 2, 2014. Born in Abingdon VA on February 2, 1952 to James Edwin Booth, Jr and Mildred Louise “Peggy” Gentry Booth.

Jack went to Thomas Dale High School where he was an All-State Lineman. He received a full scholarship at Virginia Tech and started as a defensive lineman on the 1973 football team. While at VA Tech he was a member of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation in 1974 with a Bachelor’s degree in History. Jack’s work eventually took him and his family to Sturbridge, MA where they have been living since 1990. His most recent position was Regional Sales Manager for Beckett Associates. Jack was a fan/supporter of VA Tech football. He occasionally would appear on the Tim Brando Radio Show as the VA Tech Football expert; extolling the highs and lows of Hokie football.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Booth and his son, 1Lt Joshua L. Booth USMC. Jack leaves behind his wife Debra L. Booth, stepdaughter Melissa Long DeVera; his daughter-in-law Erica Rust Booth, and grandchildren Grace McKenna Booth, Tristan Joshua Booth, Kingston Meza, Nicholas DeVera, Isabella DeVera, and Noelle Devera. Also left behind are his father, Edwin Booth and stepmother Dorothy Booth, Virginia Beach, VA.; his uncle Robert B. Booth, Greensboro, NC; and his brothers William F. Booth and wife Karen, Fredericksburg, VA; and Blackburn J. Booth and wife Linda, Virginia Beach, VA. Father-in-law Loren J. H. Guell and wife Cindi of Independence, OH.

Graveside service at 1 o”clock Saturday, Sept 6th at Longwood Cemetary, Bedford, VA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the WoundedWarriorsProject.org.  Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, ph (540) 586-3443.
