John Francis Muniz, 96, of Lynchburg, died Friday, May 24, 2019 at The Summit Assisted Living.
John was born December 17, 1922 in Union City, N. J. to the late Francis Muniz and the late Ida Catherine Muniz.
John was a veteran of World War II and received the Air Medal. He spent his career in the education field as a teacher. He began in Industrial Arts and later taught the subject he loved, history. He went on to become a guidance counselor and administrator in Emerson, N. J.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Doris O’Leary Muniz.
John is survived by his two children Thomas Muniz and his wife, Susan, of Lynchburg, and David Muniz and his wife, Catherine, of Galloway, N. J.; eight grandchildren: Daniel (Emily), Kevin (Jessica), Mark, Margaret Kathleen (Christopher), Lauren (Paul), Kaiya (Daniel), Jeremy, and Miranda; five great-grandchildren: Alexis, Aaron, Gianna, Benjamin, and Ava; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. Michael D. McCarron, celebrant. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
