John H. Vail, age 96, of Evington, VA died Monday, November 27, 2017. He was born November 21, 1921 in Kingsport, TN. To Henry Peery Vail and Edna Mary Elizabeth Ramsey Vail.
His brothers were Willis G. Vail and Harry L. Vail and sisters Helen V. Moon, Mary E. “Bookie” Kelley, and Betty Jo Keith. John was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years: Juanita Critzer Vail and a son: John Richard “Rick” Vail.
Surviving are a daughter, Anita V. Dakermanji and her husband George of Montgomery Village, MD, sister-in-law, Wanda Joan Critzer of Roanoke; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and some very special nieces and nephews.
He served in the U. S. Army in WWII serving in the South Pacific, Philippines and Japan achieving the rank of Captain. His hobbies were fishing, coin collecting, sewing machines, flowers and growing vegetables. He was retired in 1987 as President of Parkway Machine Services, Lafayette, La. John was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Daleville, Va.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Church Building Fund at 19 Cedar Ridge Drive, Daleville, Va. 24083.
At his request, no services will be held.
