Mr. John R. Herron, Jr., 98, passed away peacefully in Forest, Virginia on Saturday, August 31, 2024. John was born the oldest of three children in Marquette, Michigan and served honorably in the Army Air Corps during WWII, spending time in Burma and India. After his discharge, he attended Michigan Technological University to earn his degree in Engineering. He was a very creative and accomplished Design Engineer with multiple patents to his name developed while working for IBM, Honeywell, and other companies.
While working in Freeport, IL, he married Pauline (Schramm) in 1957, and they enjoyed a very happy and loving marriage until her death in 2011. In 2012, John moved to West Virginia to live with their daughter Anne. While in West Virginia, John was very active, often walking a mile a day and making a point of visiting with neighbors. He was a very spiritual and religious person, regularly attending St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Charles Town.
John is remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his kindness, and generosity. He easily made friends wherever he went and had a very positive impact on more lives than he was aware of.
John is survived by his daughter, Anne Herron; sisters in law, Denise Herron and Ellen Herron, grandchildren Michelle Coburn and Sara Brink; great grandchildren Evan Brink, Alex Brink, Zoey Coburn and Jaye Coburn; and great-great grandchildren Audrey Brink and Amari Brink. He has many nieces and nephews spread across the country.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11 A.M. at Trinity Ecumenical Parish (40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA. 24121) with interment to follow in Resurrection Catholic Church Cemetery (15353 Moneta Road, Moneta, VA. 24121)
