John “Hobo” T. Harris, Jr.

John \"Hobo\" Thomas Harris, Jr., 73, of Lynchburg, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011. He was the husband of the late Nancy Hudson Harris. John was born in Lynchburg on August 30, 1937 a son of the late John T. Harris, Sr. and the late Shirley Broyles Harris.

John is survived by his son, John T. \"Johnny\" Harris, III and wife, Deborah of Lynchburg; his daughter, Lisa Harris-Scruggs and husband, Larry of Gladstone; his granddaughter, Tatjana \"T. J.\" Stokes of Lynchburg; his brother, William \"Pete\" Harris of Altavista; his sisters, June Vest of Lynchburg and Barbara Faauaa of Front Royal; his close friends, Joann Elder of Concord and Bobby Heck of Texas; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by an infant daughter, Tina Marie Harris.

John was a retired letter carrier. He was an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed spending time with his bowling and golfing buddies. In 1994 he was inducted into the Lynchburg Area Bowlers Hall of Fame.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Charles B. Willoughby officiating.
