John Morgan Gilliland

John Morgan Gilliland, 86, of Forest Va., died Saturday, January 23, 2016. He was the loving husband of Mildred Toler Gilliland for 65 years.
He was born November 17, 1929 in Charlotte County, a son of the late James Bates Gilliland and the late Annie Palmer Gilliland. In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by three brothers, James, William and Wilson Gilliland, four sisters, Edith Doss, Hettie Buckley, Laura Carey and Mabel Derbin.
John served his country in the US Army, was an inspector at Rock-Tenn before his retirement and a member of Living Waters Ministries, attending Living Word Baptist.
In addition to his loving wife Mildred, he leaves to cherish his memory, his wonderful family; Deborah Hackworth and Jr., Randy Gilliland and Victoria, Donna Brooks and John, Diane McLain and Shawn, his grandchildren; Angela Pabanz and John, Joshua Gilliland and Ricka, Christian Trautner and Rob, Jeremiah Kessler and Mary Jane, Nicholas White, Keagan Tubbs and Ronald, and Taran Musgrove, nine great-grandchildren and his sister; Elizabeth Johnson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of John’s life will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Tharp Chapel. Interment will be at Fort Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity.
