John Parrish “J.P.” Cardwell, Jr., 81, of Forest died Sunday February 15, 2015. He was the loving husband of Virginia Langel Cardwell for over 56 years.
J.P. was born March 26, 1933 in Concord a son of the late John Parrish Cardwell, Sr. and the late Mary Thomas Cardwell. J.P. honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired as a Foreman with the Lynchburg Foundry and was an active member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and the Bedford Camp of the Gideon’s International.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children: Janet Cardwell Lawson (Jimmy), David Parrish Cardwell (Debbie), and Charles Thomas Cardwell, four grandchildren: Jessica Heflin (David), Jamie Thomas (J.T.), Chad Cardwell, Brayden Cardwell, two great-grandchildren: Ava Heflin and Jozie Thomas.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters: Estelle Thomson and Mary Ellen Parker.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday February 18, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Celebration of J.P.’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday February 19, 2015 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Ewing officiating. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
