John “Jack” Parsons Eckert, 81, of Lynchburg died Wednesday, March 4, 2015. He was the loving husband of Constance “Connie” Eckert for over 58 years.
Born on September 26, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late George and Viola Parsons Eckert.
He attended Lehigh University and graduated with a degree in Engineering in 1955. After earning his degree, he began his career working for B&W in Barberton, Ohio, where he met his wife, Connie. The couple said their vows on September 8, 1956.
In 1975, Jack went back to school and earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Lynchburg College, where he would later serve as a trustee. During his career at B&W, he was a project manager, quality control manager, and operations manager, and then later became General Manager and Vice President in 1980. Eventually, Jack rose to become President and Chief Operating Officer of McDermott International, the parent company of B&W.
Jack and Connie traveled extensively for his work and for fun, visiting South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. In the early 90’s, they spent three years in New Orleans while Jack served as President of McDermott International. While living there, they enjoyed attending Saints’ football games. In 1993, Jack retired from McDermott in order to spend more time with his family.
A source of great pride for Jack was his eventual election to the Board of Directors for McDermott International. He was also involved with the Junior Achievement program, and enjoyed mentoring and encouraging young people.
Jack was a patient and loving father and a devoted husband. He will always be remembered for his kindness, humility, and generosity.
