John Randolph \"Ranny\" Ferry, Jr., 66, of Lynchburg died Monday, January 6, 2014. He was the loving husband of Linda Kay Ferry of Lynchburg.
Ranny was born on February 17, 1947 in Richmond, a son of the late John Randolph Ferry, Sr. and the late Janet Jones Ferry. He spent his early life in Tappahannock, VA and later graduated from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, where he was a standout athlete and an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Ranny was a dedicated investment banker and businessman, but he was a family man first and foremost. He always enjoyed coaching his children\"™s various sports teams and looked forward to attending University of Virginia sporting events with friends and family every season. He was also an avid tennis player. He had a great love of the Outer Banks, but never enjoyed anywhere more than his own home in Lynchburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons: John R. Ferry, III of New York City, NY and Bryan M. Ferry of Managua, Nicaragua; a daughter, Lauren E. Ferry of Lynchburg; and two brothers: L. Wright Ferry of Tappahannock, VA and Henry L. Ferry of Beaverdam, VA.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. A memorial service for Ranny will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at St. John\"™s Episcopal Church.
