John Sherwood Pollard Sr.,

John Sherwood Pollard Sr., was born on September 15, 1926 in Nelson County to the late Emanuel Pollard Sr., and Nettie Keys-Pollard. He quietly departed this life on Monday, November 5, 2018, at Lynchburg General Hospital. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, of 69 years, Kimmie Catherine Pollard and his son, John S. Pollard Jr.
John was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, Amherst, VA. Being the talented guitarist God called him to be, he often played for the Galilee Baptist Church in Amherst VA. Living in New Jersey for forty three years, he and Kimmie returned to their home in Amherst County to live comfortably. John Pollard could be found in his younger days fishing and enjoying life. On any given Sunday, you would find him playing his guitar. A few of his favorite songs to play were “Jesus Loves Me Like A Rock” and “Somewhere Around The Throne.”
John leaves to cherish his memory his two grandchildren, John Malloy of Amherst and Kim Chapman (Rodney) of Jersey City, NJ. Five great grandchildren, Justyn Chapman, Jordan Chapman, Janae Malloy, Xavior Malloy, and Jenna Malloy; three sisters, Dorothy Stevens, Elizabeth Smith, and Reba Brown; one brother, Emanuel M. Pollard Jr., (Odella) and a host of nieces and nephews. Devoted friends, Rita Malloy, Barbara Dixon, Ulysses Johnson, and Beverly, Robert, and Eleanor.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 at First Baptist Church: 193 Mt Airy Rd, Amherst, VA 24521 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Coolwell Cemetery. A repast will follow at John’s residence: 145 Jeffrey Loop, Amherst VA, 24521.
