John Brantley Sloan was born sleeping on September 18, 2024, at 4:24 AM at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He weighed 6 lbs 15 oz and was 20 inches long. After an uncomplicated and healthy pregnancy, John Brantley inexplicably had no heartbeat after being carried to full term at 39 weeks. John Brantley is survived by his father and mother, Brantley and Tori Sloan; his maternal grandparents, Mark and Kim Holbrook; his paternal grandparents, Roger and Sherry Sloan; his maternal great grandmother, Janet Mason; his paternal great grandparents, Norman and Myra Spires and Frances Sloan; and his aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
Although he didn’t experience life outside of the womb, we cherish the memories we have with him. His mom will always remember how he was especially active when there was worship music playing and when she drank Chick-fil-A milkshakes. His dad treasures the times he got to sing to him and read him books.
We carry the responsibility of being John Brantley’s parents with great honor and gratitude. We long for the day that we will be reunited with our son. The most important thing to us is that his life and ours would point people to the only hope in this broken world. Death has no victory or sting because of the hope we have in our resurrected savior Jesus Christ. He died so that we could have life and that sorrows such as this would not be forever. May we grieve, hope, and look forward to the day when all will be made new.
