John Wade Powell, Jr. of Moneta, VA – formerly of Earlysville, VA – died peacefully on November 15, 2018 while surrounded by family in Moneta, VA after a prolonged illness. He was born in Staunton, Virginia on June 7, 1938 to the late Chloe Wagoner Powell and John Wade Powell, Sr.
John was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his mother and father, he was predeceased by his son Ted in 1988. He is survived by his loving wife Jane Crosby Powell of Moneta, VA, his sons Tim (Denis Schroeder) of New York City and Terry (Andrea) of Hellertown, PA along with two grandchildren, Jessica and Garrett. John cherished his relationships with his stepdaughter Kimberly Rohr (George Noleff) of Toledo, OH, and his stepson Harrison Rohr of Miami Beach, FL. He is also survived by his sister Doris Thomas of Roanoke and many beloved nieces and nephews. John will be sadly missed by his faithful and loving companion, Maddi.
John was a radio personality for many years in Charlottesville and Gretna, VA. He was the owner of his own advertising business, Ad/Mark. John was also an accomplished realtor with Real Estate III of Charlottesville. He and Jane later retired to Smith Mountain Lake.
John was an active member of the Charlottesville and Albemarle community, serving as President of the Dogwood Festival, a member of the Elks Lodge, the Jaycees and other organizations. He also enjoyed calling/broadcasting sporting events for Albemarle High School.
The family will be receiving friends for visitation at 2:00pm followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm on Saturday November 24th at Hill & Wood Funeral Home, 201 N. First St., Charlottesville.
