John Watkins Carrington, 87, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, July 30, 2016. He was the devoted husband of the late Nancy Lee Maddox Carrington and wonderful father to his daughter, Cee Cee.
John was born August 12, 1928, in Forest Hills, NY. He was the son of the late Alfred Randolph Carrington, II, and Gladys Louise Watkins Carrington. John graduated from Virginia Military Institute in the class of 1950B and served his country in the United States Air Force in northern Japan. John retired as Financial Controller of Weyerhaeuser Company and was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
John was predeceased by his brother, Alfred Randolph Carrington, III. He is survived by his daughter Nancy “Cee Cee” Carrington Petruncio and husband Mike of Elizabeth City, NC, a sister Jean Little of Greenville, SC, a sister-in-law Faye Marshall Carrington of Kingsport, TN, six nieces: Andee Morford and husband Dwayne, Sarah Payne Wilson and husband Wythe, Betsy Flowers and husband Jack, Kent Carrington Dunford, Jeannie Little, Sally Little Few and four nephews, Samuel Clyde Maddox, III and his wife Kathy, Stuart Lee Thomas and his wife Aida, Clark Little, and Alfred Randolph Carrington, IV.
John was a man of integrity, great courage, and faith. He found the good in every person he met and had a beautiful and easy smile. He loved his family and they loved him so very much. His faith in God guided him through life’s challenges and was a testament to those who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg.
A graveside service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2016 at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Todd Vie officiating.
