John William Jennings, Jr., 66, of Forest died Monday February 16, 2015. He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth Thornhill Jennings for 32 years. He is also survived by his son William Jennings and his wife Holly of Richmond.
John was born August 12, 1948 in Norfolk, a son of the late John W. Jennings, Sr. and the late Doris Joyner Jennings. John honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from the Lynchburg Fire Marshal’s Office and Bedford County as a Fire Investigator with 40 years of service. John was an active member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Order of Merlin Shield, the Society of American Magicians, where he served as President, Secretary, Treasurer, and SYM Youth Leader in the local Assembly #32. In addition to his local duties he also served as the Virginia State Deputy for the Society, as he tirelessly promoted the art of magic. John was also member of Southside Fire Marshals Association, American Legion, and Peakland Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday February 20, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 21, 2015 at Peakland Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Hunter and the Rev. Nathan C. Brooks, III officiating. Inurnment will follow at Peakland Baptist Church Columbarium.
