Joseph E. Crawford

Joseph E. “Teady” Crawford, 91, of Lynchburg went to be with his Lord on December 11, 2018. Born February 1, 1927 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Frank S. Crawford, Sr. and Dora Shiflett Crawford. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Donnie Tomlin Crawford; a brother, Frank S. Crawford, Jr. and sisters, Bernice A. Goin, Shirley Roakes, and Maxine Myers.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship USS Newman K. Perry, and retired from the U.S. Post Office after 32 years. He was previously a member of Fairview United Methodist Church for 50 years, where he was a member of the choir and a bell-ringer. He is currently a member of Jordan Baptist Church.

Joseph is survived by his daughters, Sandy Searcy and husband Mike of Colorado, Linda F. Davidson of Lynchburg; four grandchildren: Richard Jenks (Noelle), and Traci Glantz (Todd) of Colorado, Waverly Scott Davidson of Evington, and Tammy Milford (Scott) of Lynchburg; two great-grandchildren of Colorado, and two special friends and caregivers, Sharon Campbell and Brenda Coleman.

The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, one hour prior to the service from 11:00 am until 12:00 (noon) on Monday, December, 17, 2018. A Service will be conducted at 12:00 (noon) on Monday, with the Rev. Melvin Campbell officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans Administration or Jordan Baptist Church. A Celebration of Joseph’s Life will follow the Internment at Jordan Baptist Church.
