Joseph Eubank Holt, Jr., born in Roanoke, Virginia, April 7, 1924, died May 9, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Holt.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Mary Agnes Holt; daughter, Sherran Smiley, Carol Easterly and husband Bill; four grandchildren, Paige Fraasch and her husband Don, John Michael Holt and his wife Sonia, Dean Wendt, and Jennifer Peters and her husband Tim; and eight great-grandchildren: Derrik Sandoval, Brandi Volkers, Morgen Sandoval, Samantha Holt, Jessi Volkers, Jessica Holt, Christine Holt, and Tyler Holt; a sister in law, Sarah Smith and her husband Ed and many nieces and nephews.
Joseph served his county for 30 years as a pilot and member of the Silver Eagle in the U.S. Navy, in particular serving in World War II; in the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown; and in Saigon during the Vietnam War, awarded the Bronze Star with Combat V. Upon retirement from the Navy, Joe and Mary returned to Roanoke. They bought a farm in Thaxton, and Joe served as a magistrate in Roanoke until retiring.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 9:30-11:00 am at Bedford Baptist Church. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery at 2:30 pm for those wishing to attend. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 36.
