Joseph Ashton James, Jr.

Joseph Ashton James Jr, 94 of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. He was the son of the late Joseph Ashton James Sr. and Ruth Corrine Edwards James, and the husband of the late Annie Cleola James for more than 56 years.

Joseph Ashton James Jr was born on March 18, 1931, in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 1955 and from Columbia Bible College in 1957. He was a teacher with the Lynchburg Public Schools until his retirement in 1991.

Ashton was an active member of Timberlake Baptist Church for many years where he served in the choir, as a Missions Committee member, and as a deacon. His mission trips took him to several countries, including Burundi, Africa.

Our loving father is survived by his children, Brenda Dawn Traylor, Timothy Ashton James, and Melony Lynn Greene, by seven grandchildren, by eight great grandchildren, and by several cousins.

A service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the Timberlake Baptist Church. Family will be receiving condolences one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Allow the Children.
