Joseph “Joe” Mullagh

\"Be kinder than necessary because everyone is fighting some kind of battle.\"

Always with a smile on his face, Joe lived his life steadfastly and valiantly, until he saw the welcoming arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Joseph \"Joe\" Mullagh was a kind, gentle and dignified spirit who passed peacefully into his heavenly home, December 2, 2012 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

He leaves to cherish his warm smile and gentle nature, his loving and devoted wife, Edythe Mullagh.\"Edie\" was faithfully by his side throughout their twenty-two years together. \"Sometimes when one person is missing, the whole world seems depopulated.\"

Joe was born in County Mayo, Ireland on July 6, 1929. His youth was highlighted by his distinguished service in the Royal Air Force during which time he participated in the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. He was also a successful professional boxer before coming to the United States in 1954. Upon arrival in the Unites States, Joe worked for thirty-two years for New York Telephone Company (now Verizon). Following his retirement, Joe spent many happy years at Topsail Beach, NC before settling in Evington, VA with Edie. Joe and Edie were faithful members of Hyland Heights Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his brother Jimmy Mullagh and sister-in-law Kathleen Mullagh of England, his special nephew Michael Mullagh of California, his children John (Patricia) Mullagh, Mary (Claude) Meneses and Patricia (John) Woloszyn of Long Island, NY, Sandra (Dicky) White, Debbie (Steve) Bozeman, Diane (Robert) Austin of Lynchburg and Marie (Herbie) Ward of Grandy, NC, special in-laws Helen Nuzzi of Evington and Monty (Bettie) Maddox of Lynchburg, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of which loved \"Joe Joe\" dearly.

May the road rise up to meet you,

May the wind be ever at your back

May the sun shine warm upon your face

And the rain fall softly on your fields

And until we meet again, May God hold

You in the hollow of his hand. —-Traditional Irish Blessing
