Joseph L. Gray
Joseph L. Gray, 94, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, January 02, 2014. Born June 22, 1919 in Pomona, KS; he was the only child of the late John Thomas Gray and Alma Krouse Gray Reynolds.
Joseph spent 3 years, 7 months, and 21 days in the US Army Airforce as a B-24 flight engineer. He completed 22 combat missions in CBI (China, Burma, India) Theatre of Operations. Most of Joseph\"™s life was spent working in wildlife conservation, as fisheries biologist and culturist. He retired from the State of Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries as a supervisor of warm water hatcheries. He was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge, North Platte, NE and The American Legion.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 45 years; Janet L. Gray, daughter; Dorothy Marie Shurtleff (Don) of Bend, Oregon, stepchildren; Christian Ray Fellhoelter(Laura) of Goodyear, AZ, Aaron Mitchell Fellhoelter of Mississippi, and Kendra Anne Banton (Malcolm)of GA.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary and Gerri McCandless of North Platte, NE.; step grandchildren, Chase Fellhoelter of AZ., Nicole Fellhoelter of Elkton, VA., and Nina Fellhoelter of Lynchburg; a great grandson Lyle Fellhoelter of Elkton, VA.
A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 am with the Pastors Virgil and Sue Knipp officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
