Joseph McGavock Crockett, Jr., 89, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, August 25, 2016. He was the husband of the late beloved Margreta Westergaard.
Joseph was born December 18, 1926, in Washington, D.C., the son of Joseph McGavock Crockett, Sr., and Nellie Bladen.
He is survived by daughters, Susan McGavock Crockett of Asheville, N.C., and Anne Bladen Crockett of Bluffton, S.C.; and a sister, Bertha Graham Crockett of Forest, Virginia.
Joseph earned forestry degrees from Virginia Tech and Duke University. He worked for Westvaco Corporation for 38 years in industrial forestry at several company locations. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, Va. and served as a deacon, elder and teacher at Summerville Presbyterian Church in S.C. where he was active in various professional, civic, and charitable organizations.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Joseph’s life at 2 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at The Cove Presbyterian Church in Wytheville, Va. Interment will follow after the service.
