Joseph William McGuirk

Joseph William McGuirk, known as Joe, passed away on August 2, 2024, in Roanoke, Virginia, at the age of 69. Joe was born on June 12, 1955, in Oakland, California. Joe was raised in a Navy family who traveled often but finally resided in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he grew up. He later moved to the Lynchburg area to be closer to his children and last resided in Floyd County, Virginia. 

Joe's education was completed at Kellam High School in 1973. He began his career in the printing industry and later transitioned to become a Class A CDL Licensed Driver, a role he dedicated many years to with great pride and professionalism.

 A Christian man, Joe was an active member of New Haven Baptist Church in Floyd, VA. His commitment to his faith was evident in his daily life and interactions. 

Joe was known for his dedication to his family and friends, and his passion for sports, gardening, and fine dining. These interests brought him immense joy and were a significant part of his life.

 He is survived by his daughters, Shannon McGuirk and Kelly McGuirk (Jake); grandchildren, Braylon Butler, Ryan Dempsey, and Sofiea Butler; sister, Louise Prusia (Richard); niece, Tiffany Prusia; and his best friends, Sherri Hodnett (Linwood) and David Elliot. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Joseph McGuirk and Doris Thompson McGuirk. 

Joe generously supported various charitable organizations, including the CBN Network and The Daily Bread. Contributions in his memory can be made to these organizations to continue his legacy of giving.

 A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Tharp Funeral Chapel Bedford, with Pastor Allen Agee officiating. Please wear something green in honor of Joe. There will be a reception immediately follow the service at St. John’s Episcopal Church next door to the funeral home.
